Kids will have a blast building their very own suet feeder\, learning how to help local birds\, and getting a little messy along the way. With simple tools\, fun materials\, and lots of encouragement\, this workshop is all about making\, learning\, and feeling proud of something they can take home and use right away. DESCRIPTION:LASER CUTTER 101 COURSE \n– 2 Part Series – \nSunday Feb 8\, 2026 9am-2:30pm / Tuesday 10\, 2026 6pm-8:30pm. \nHere’s your chance to learn more about this exciting piece of machinery at the Shuswap Makerspace! Come and get certified to use our 100-Watt HL 1060 Laser Cutting / Engraving machine\, and learn all the capabilities of this amazing tool. What are you going to create?! \n  \nSession 1 – 6 hours with an hour break for lunch \n-In this class\, you will learn the basics of the machine\, safe operation\, and designing for the laser. Knowledge with Windows is required\, and there is software that can be downloaded on your personal computer to prepare your files for the laser. You will learn how to design and then use the laser cutter to cut out the project of instructors choice. \nSession 2 – 2 hours \n-In this second session you will use the laser to print out a project that you have designed for yourself. If you are thinking of getting a lathe or already have a lathe but need some guidance\, this course will teach you proper use\, help familiarize you with related terminology\, and give you a better understanding of the metal lathe’s capabilities. \nIntroduction to the Metal Lathe will include\, but is not limited to: \n\nShop safety\nLathe basics\nCutting tools and techniques\nCutting speeds and feeds\n\nThis course will be a prerequisite for other metal lathe courses and is the certification course for unsupervised use of the lathe in the Shuswap Makerspace.
